Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. Longer or shorter sessions are available by request and the rate would be adjusted accordingly
Are sessions covered by extended health care?
Counselling sessions are able to be covered by most extended health care benefit plans. Nicky engages in regular supervision with a Registered Social Worker, which allows sessions to be covered under this regulated body. Please check with your individual extended health care plan to see if you are covered for services by a Registered Social Worker. What is a Master's in Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care?
A Master's degree in Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Health is extremely specialized, as the whole degree focuses on pediatric development, how development is impacted by adverse life events and how to foster resilience and healthy coping in the face of adversity. This degree enables you to become a Certified Child Life Specialist with the Association of Child Life Professionals. Child Life Specialists commonly work in hospital settings, however I believe the specialized knowledge, expertise, and skills of CLSs are extremely valuable and beneficial for children, teens, and young adults in the community. My hope is to expand the reach of Child Life Specialists to ensure children, teens, and families to have access to the specialized support they need in the community.
